Confirmation at St George's, Pontesbury
Information for those considering joining the preparation group.
Confirmation means a number of things
- wanting to be a disciple
- turning towards Christ
- becoming a full member of the church
- joining other pilgrims on the Christian journey
- making a public statement
- and doing it all as part of a group
When will the Confirmation Service be?
At the 10:30 service in St. George’s Church on one of the summer Sundays. One of our Bishops will come and lay his hands on the head of the candidates to signify the gift of God’s Holy Spirit.
Candidates will receive Holy Communion for the first time at that service.
It will be a day of celebration for candidates, their families, and the whole church. There WILL be a party!
So how will we prepare for confirmation?:-
Four basic strands :-
First:
Beginning to become one of the St. George's family of Christian people, by attending church regularly (no not every week!) There will be jobs to be done from carrying candles and serving coffee to reading in the service or giving out hymn books. You do only things that you want to do.
Second:
By coming to regular meetings once a fortnight where we learn together about Jesus, & the Christian faith and where we begin to learn to pray, and where we can ask questions.
Third:
Becoming a group that trusts each other and has fun together at social events, outings and by sharing a few days away. That includes bonfire parties, ice skating trips, trips to cinema or other church youth groups, expeditions into the Shropshire hills, picnics, and much more.
Fourth:
By spending time each day on your own with God. Perhaps reading a passage from the bible, saying a prayer, or just being quiet in God’ presence. Everyone of us approaches God in a different way and we will explore some of these ways together. Some prefer silence, some song; others prefer written prayers some prefer ones we say ourselves; some will read their bible in small portions, others will want to read whole stories at one sittingwe are all different. God made us and loves us and our differences.
