Mary Webb After School Club
About twenty four pupils come to the club, which runs from the end of the school day until 4:30 p.m. Two adult volunteers from St George's Church supervise (not organise) and the young people engage in a number of activities. There will usually be two places where they can 'be'. The hall, with table tennis, CDs and dancing, DVDs and snooker; and the library where there will be homework, computers and reading. All accompanied by much talking and good humour. The young people are brilliant, and the enterprise is greatly valued by Mrs Janet Brown, the Head of the school, who is always in school on Wednesday afternoons. We are hopeful of more money being available to buy equipment for the coming term, but St George's volunteers are asked only for their time. We always need a few more volunteers. The more we have the less frequently one is asked to be present on a Wednesday. We have parents, grandparents and single people on our list of helpers : the only qualification is wanting to support young people who often live in isolated places where meeting up with their friends is difficult.
