November 2007
As busy a day as ever today at Little Dragons with 25 members scuttling about as Carers and Helpers observe, interact and chat. The feeling of friendship and companionship continues to develop. It is interesting to note that our older LD’s are now playing together rather than simply alongside each other as they share equipment and join together in their enjoyment. They greet each other with hugs and smiles as they meet. After a further 2 terms they will move on to early school days and the current crop of 3’s will be the group leaders. As children pass through one wonders what, if anything, they may remember about their time spent here together. It is interesting that, during a lifetime, there are so many things which one, apparently, forgets but which may suddenly spring into the mind seemingly without cause. Likewise with people known long ago in the mists of time pupils who started school on the same day, someone encountered during a journey, never to be seen again and all but forgotten until some unexpected thought suddenly brings them to mind. Then there are those who are always remembered with love and affection family members, friends, and acquaintances from past times who may never be met again.
At this time of year as we remember those who have fought and died for our freedom in times of conflict, it is good also to remember those who have played a big part in our own development of personality, behaviour and respect for others. It is so easy when we live at a hectic pace to forget those who need our help, our care, our tolerance and our love now, each and every day. It is sometimes far easier to give time and effort to those who perhaps mean less to us than to spend time remembering with grace those who are close to us who also need that time and effort. Perhaps, like our 4 year old Dragons, we may find that a hug and a smile can be a means of indicating our care. How about a National Big Hug Day?
