St. George’s Choir and Music Group
A small band of regulars lead the music for Sunday services throughout the year. There has in recent times been considerable interest from a number of singers who are keen to sing with us at particular times of the year but don't feel they can be available on a regular basis for Sunday services. For Christmas 2010 the choir was strongly augmented with an extra 5 children and 6 adults for the candlelit service. It is our intention to pursue this further in the coming year.
We are happy to be flexible and encourage people to join us when they can and in whatever way they feel is appropriate.
From February 2011 a junior choir will meet between 7:30 and 8:00 during term time (after Friday Club). We hope to make these sessions enjoyable and fun and to begin to introduce some of the wealth of church music to local 7-11 year olds. It is our intention to link this junior choir with out adults in one service each month.
The choir regularly joins with others to sing for special occasions. Recently we sang "Isaiah" – the first performance of a local work at Annscroft Church. Members of the choir attend the annual Choirs Festival in Hereford Cathedral, we sing with a Deanery Choir every Lent and we have other 'outings' to enjoy different styles of music.
The main choir meets on a Friday following the juniors between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00. We have a small band which plays for some services. Ken Lumley, with his vast musical expertise, would love to extend this small group so that it can play more frequently.
If you would like to join us, in any capacity – as a junior, as a musician, as an occasional singer, or of course as a regular please ring me on 01743 271504, catch me in church any Sunday or through our contacts page.
