Mothers Union, Pontesbury Branch

The Pontesbury Branch of the Mothers Union meet usually on the First Thursday in a month.

The Pontesbury branch has existed for many years and supports the work of the church. The worldwide union is active all over the world, working in very varied circumstances.

Although now only a small group, members remain committed to the Aims and Objects of the Mothers Union and its role as Handmaid of the Church.

Four wedding anniversaries were celebrated in 2006, a ruby, a golden and two diamonds.

The Women's World Day of Prayer was held in St George's, and all denominations were well represented.

There was a visit from the Diocesan president in May, and this was a much enjoyed Deanery event.

An outing to Gobowen took place in June, (a friendship formed with Litchfield Diocese members ten years ago), and the day included a communion service in their church and a talk on The Donkey Sanctuary.

Colin Hurford never disappoints and his talk on the role of St Joseph in the Christmas story was though provoking.

The launch of LAPH (Longden, Annscroft, Pulverbatch and Hanwood branches) was a most welcome addition to our Deanery.

There has been continued support for the Children's Society and for projects overseas and at home.

Each year St George's has a festival of Christmas Trees and Cribs. This year we chose to display a crib

The Mothers Union Prayer

Loving Lord
We thank you for your love so freely given to us all.
We pray for families around the world.
Bless the work of the Mothers' Union
as we seek to share your love
through the encouragement, strengthening
and support of marriage and family life.
Empowered by your Spirit,
may we be united in prayer and worship,
and in love and service reach out
as your hands across the world.
In Jesus' name.
Amen

New members and visitors are always welcome.
